由於美股去年最後交易日重挫、12月財新中國製造業指數創九個月新低，陸股重挫、沙烏地阿拉伯宣佈與伊朗斷交，中東局勢緊張、人民幣貶值，使得2016台股首個交易日，開低走低，31日政府主力護盤的塑化及金融股，成最大苦主，終場加權指數收在 8114.26點，下跌223.8點或2.68%，成交額770.37億元。OTC指數收在 126.57點，下跌2.48點或1.92%，成交額213.68億元。
